HUNTINGTON BEACH — A high-voltage power pole caught fire on Slater Avenue Friday morning, causing a power outage along the avenue, authorities said.
Huntington Beach Fire Department was dispatched to 7611 Slater Ave. at 9 a.m. on June 30 for a report of smoke coming from one of the underground electrical vaults in the area. When fire crews arrived, a nearby power pole was on fire, authorities said.
Slater Avenue was closed from Gothard Street to Nichols Lane for two hours while Edison crews worked on the pole, Huntington Beach Fire Department spokesperson Keita Sato said.
Power was restored to the south side of Slater Avenue about 11 a.m., Sato said.
It is unknown when or if power was completely restored to the area and how many customers were affected.
Edison workers are expected to remain on scene throughout the night to intermittently fix the damaged lines, Sato said. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
