NORTH HOLLYWOOD – Staring down the barrel of a 12-point deficit in the third quarter, Viewpoint’s boys basketball team was looking for anything to give it a spark in Friday night’s road game at Campbell Hall.
It finally came when Viewpoint senior Michael Feinberg scored the team’s first points of the third quarter at the 4:15 mark, sparking a 20-6 run that proved key to the Patriots’ 56-49 nonleague victory over Campbell Hall.
Feinberg led all scorers with 20 points and 11 rebounds, Khair Jackson had 14 and junior Ben Yarovinksy added 10, including a clutch basket with 13 seconds left to extend the Viewpoint lead from three to five.
Campbell Hall had moments of momentum, especially when senior Jack Hermann had a spurt of brilliance to finish the first half. Hermann, who doesn’t play a lot of minutes, first hit a deep 3-pointer from the top of the key, followed by a crafty layup and pocket pass to Charile Riordan which anchored a 8-0 run for the Vikings to finish the half with a 27-20 lead.
The Vikings lost hold of the game when big man Jonny Garnett fouled out, creating more opportunities for Viewpoint (12-6) on the offensive glass down the stretch. Viewpoint outscored Campbell Hall 36-18 in the second half.
Mike Meadows led Campbell Hall (13-5) with 17 points.
